Oak Pointe of Washington is thrilled to be named the Best Senior Housing in the 2022 Missourian Readers’ Choice Awards program. This program invites local Missourian readers to nominate and vote for their favorite businesses and services, with the top vote recipients in each category crowned as the best. This category had heavy competition in 2022 as Oak Pointe took the top slot against 15 other local senior care communities.

While some local businesses may heavily promote their participation in the Readers’ Choice program to help secure votes, Oak Pointe of Washington did no external promotion of the contest. This means that the votes received were truly organic, and shows just how much residents and their loved ones appreciate the offerings of Oak Pointe. Amy Francis, Executive Director for the community says that winning the award is truly a reflection on her staff and the quality of care that residents receive.  “We all work very hard to deliver really good care for residents,” said Francis. “For us to know that we are working really hard is one thing, but for the community to see that as well really blows us away.”

Francis and her team strive to create an environment that is friendly and welcoming for residents and their guests. “Residents ask me all the time where I found these great caregivers and how I got them all working in one building,” describes Francis. This welcoming culture starts as soon as someone walks through the front doors with Community Concierge, Anita, and continues throughout the space itself. The community has a bright, engaging design that stands out from other senior living communities in the area. There are also some unique design elements of the space that help it stand out from the competition, like the communal Memory Care space.

Oak Pointe of Washington’s leadership hopes that unfamiliar Missourian readers will take away that this senior living community is a place that is truly resident centered. “We look at all aspects of resident life and how we can improve it, be it physically, mentally, spiritually, socially, and more,” explains Dee Coppeans, Director of Sales. The goal is to create a culture of what Francis calls a “community within a community.” For Francis, this means going the extra mile to make sure seniors experience the best possible care in all aspects of their day-to-day life. “We’re set apart from other communities because we really are focused on the wellness of people and getting them socialized into our community family,” Francis explains.

For Francis, winning Best Senior Housing is deeply personal. Oak Pointe of Washington opened in 2020 during the height of COVID, meaning that the first couple years have been anything but typical. Despite unique challenges like limits on touring and visits, Francis is happy to see how much impact Oak Pointe has had on the surrounding community. “I just want to say thank you to the community. For the community to feel this way and recognize us really speaks volumes to what we work towards every day,” says Francis.

All in all, almost 6,000 people from the local community weighed in on the 2022 ballot. In their contest winners announcement, the Missourian explains that winning businesses have earned the trust of the community and impressed readers. Francis and community leadership hopes that Missourian readers will come visit and see the difference for themselves. The community is currently accepting new residents.
