Meet Our Partners: Fox Rehabilitation

arrow down

At Provision Living, we strive to help older adults thrive. One of the ways we accomplish this is through our purposeful relationships with our wellness partners. In honor of National Occupational Therapy Month, we’re excited to introduce you to Fox Rehabilitation. FOX is a physical and occupational therapy and speech language pathology private practice for older adults. Their goal is to help the aging population live stronger, longer lives—enjoying their communities, families, and friends with as much comfort and independence as possible.

Introduce yourself. What’s your name and your role at FOX Rehabilitation?

Jennifer Revolinsky MS, OTR/L Senior Regional Director of Operations.

My name is Jennifer Revolinsky MS, OTR/L Senior Regional Director of Operations.

What services does FOX Rehab offer at Provision Living senior communities?

Physical & Occupational Therapy and Speech & Language Pathology.

How does the partnership between FOX Rehabilitation and Provision Living enhance the lives of our residents?

FOX takes a very different approach to aging and functional wellness. We believe in being proactive and engaging with residents to ensure they are strong and as independent as possible. Think of us as “outpatient on wheels,” bringing services directly to Provision Living residents, right at home. FOX and Provision Living believe in the same mission, with the ultimate goal being to enable residents to live a high-quality, fulfilled, and thriving life.

What are common misconceptions about occupational therapy?

Many do not understand what the occupational therapy focus is and what we work on. I often hear, “I don’t work anymore, so I don’t need occupational therapy.” In reality, our occupations are changing constantly throughout our lifetime, posing new tasks and creative ways to complete them at times.

More specifically, improving our patients’ activities of daily living is the objective of occupational therapy. OT is a skilled rehabilitative intervention that focuses on increasing functional independence, social participation, and quality of life. Care may include: evaluation of our patient’s home and environments, fitting of and training on assistive devices, dressing, bathing, and hand function, as well as caregiver and family education. We like to say, “Physical therapy can get you to walk, but occupational therapy will get you to dance.”

Tell us about a resident who has grown leaps and bounds through occupational therapy.

It is hard to pick just one, but a favorite of mine is Irene. She is a woman of spirit and spunk, completely independent with all daily tasks and care. Irene created handmade blankets for premature babies at the local hospital for years, but she suffered a CVA (stroke) and was extremely weak on her dominant right side, which caused her to lose the ability to complete daily care and to knit her blankets.

We knew we had a road ahead, but Irene was determined to get back on her feet, as she had babies in need. We worked on strengthening coordination, balance, and vision for many weeks with our ultimate task of knitting. Irene was proud to be able to get back to her babies with her beautiful blankets within a matter of weeks.

If someone wants their loved one to start occupational therapy, what are three things they should do or know before doing so?

Be sure to share with your therapist your own personal goals. This will motivate and drive you toward positive progress, even on the tough days. Believe in yourself and remember, with the right tools and hard work, you can regain function to live a high-quality life. Sometimes our attitude is the only thing in our control; stay positive and know you have people around you that will support you and believe in you, even when you don’t believe in yourself!
